Bone Density Testing
This project was to determining how calcium affects bone density. To do this we purchased a large bag of chicken legs where we took off the meat and cut the middle of the bone into 1 cm segments. Three different mixtures of water and Acetic Acid were used to create different Acetic Acid baths. Five bones were placed into each bath while one bath only contained H2O (used as control group). The bone density and strength was measured using an Instron Machine. Different rates and forces were applied to different bones from different baths. These results were compiled to determine how the calcium (that was pulled out using the Acetic Acid). Through this experiment, I learned how to use the Instron machines to measure density and strength of materials.
